A Tree for two

Piet.sO et Peter Keene 2019

Installations, experiments and video, in a sort of looped communication apparatus with their garden in Center of France.

The two visual artists wanted to explore together in 2019 a subject that they explored in 2005 in their installation Biosphères, then individually in their respective pieces, namely: the relationship between man and the tree. The "alien" tree or barely living decorative object has become a cosmic being connected to all living things and the interaction that it is possible to establish with it is an adventure to be undertaken on a personal level which finds a beautiful response in the plastic and sound fields.
For this project, the artists sought to explore both meditation and radionics, drawing on whatever experience their studio/garden could offer. Two linden stumps fresh from the garden's soil and the discovery of an illustrated dictionary in their studio formed the basis for a game of communication with the spirits or forces of the garden.
Fleur de souche uses a classic sensing technique, using the roots as antennas coupled with an extremely sensitive, wide-bandwidth amplifier. The purpose of the experiment is to determine whether these plants are sensitive to electromagnetic or vibrational waves.
The other stump serves as a control to communicate with the trees in the garden. The technique used is electromagnetic, similar to Georges Lakhovsky's radiocellular oscillator. We added an interface for audio modulation signals via Morse code. This interface may allow humans to enter this signal transmission and reception loop.
